Cameroon fans were waiting anxiously for news on Carlos Baleba after he appeared to suffer an injury at AFCON.
The Albion midfielder went off half-time in his nation’s 1-0 win over Gabon in their opening fixture of the tournament.
He had required treatment towards the end of the first half and his exit saw Cameroon’s performance drop a level in the second period.
Baleba produced 45 impressive minutes, albeit against modest opposition, which brought back memories of his most dominant performances in midfield for the Seagulls,
He was on the pitch as Cameroon scored their early opener and strode around the pitch as an effective ball-winner.
His previous such exits had all been for poor performance levels and/or yellow cards.
Baleba has not produced his best form for his club so far this season.
There is a hope that he will get into his stride while on international duty.
Baleba himself has spoken about his big ambitions for the coming weeks.
He said: “It’s a pleasure to play for my country. I want to win AFCON and the World Cup with my country.
“I’ve become a big leader but there are a lot of leaders in this group.”
Cameroon, who are in turmoil off the pitch, are in the same group as Mozambique and holders Ivory Coast
